The difference between forging and casting of valves

Forging is a processing method that uses forging machinery to apply pressure to metal blanks to produce plastic deformation to obtain forgings with certain mechanical properties, certain shapes and sizes. Forging and stamping belong to the nature of plastic processing, collectively referred to as forging.

Casting is a liquid metal forming process, that is, injecting molten liquid alloy into a pre-prepared mold to cool and solidify to form a casting. According to the process method, casting can be subdivided into sand casting, pressure casting, investment casting, and shell casting. , Lost foam casting, low pressure casting, gravity casting, etc.

Valve castings generally refer to parts formed by casting processes. Such parts generally refer to valve bodies, bonnets and handwheels. Casting is generally larger parts, or cost savings, but the premise is to meet the standards and design requirements. The opposite of casting is the forging molding process, which is generally used in smaller valves, or in special industries, or as required by the owner.

The main parts of the valve include: valve body, valve cover, valve stem, valve disc (gate). According to the standard, the valve stem is forged. Of course, some manufacturers also use rolled bars instead of them in order to save costs. According to experience This is acceptable for valves used under medium and low pressure conditions. The valve disc (gate) is as small as the valve body and bonnet, so it can be processed directly with forgings or even rods. Castings are only used for larger volumes. Our usual valve casting materials are divided into: carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel. Carbon steel: WCA, WCB, WCC; alloy steel: WC6, WC9; stainless steel: CF8, CF8M, CF3, CF3M. Of course there are some special casting materials: copper, pure titanium, titanium alloy and so on.
